About Us
Garage wines emerged in the mid 1990s in the Bordeaux region of France, when innovative winemakers realized they couldn’t produce exceptional and different wines on a large scale. Instead they produced small batches of wine they called “Vins de Garage’” or Garage Wine. Small vineyards were created on the grounds of estates, with small-scale production facilities, making wines that broke with the traditional style of highly tannic Bordeaux wines.
In the spirit of the "Garagistes," we’ve become garage winemakers, making great wine, and having fun in the process. In 2006, we bought some Cabernet grapes from a local vineyard and our first vintage won a silver medal at the Orange County Fair Wine Competition. Since then we have become a bonded winery under the brand Baccarossa.
Jim Schwabe and Doug Aumack are the founders of Garage Winemaker and Baccarossa.
